Whip finish Tool Step by Step

 


The whip finish is the most secure finish to your fly. Mastering this tool makes this really easy to achieve.

The thread used is much thicker than normal tying thread and the choice of orange is to make it more visible

1. The key to using this tool is to start with the fugure four as shown with the thread running toward the back of the hook behind the upright thread.

2-7 rotate the tool in a clockwise direction trapping the horizontal thread.

8.Pull the horizontal thread drawing the sprung retainer into the whipings.

9. lift the sprung retainer out of the thread, maintaining the tension on the hooked end of the tool.

10. Pull on the bobbin and when the thread tightens onto the hook remove the end of the tool and tighten the whippings by pulling on the bobbin.
